Chaz Bono’s book Transition is a remarkable companion piece to his extraordinarily moving film ‘Becoming Chaz’…a story that takes us through his gender identity confirmation into manhood…with insight, humor and more than one cultural binary or two turned on its featherbrained head.

I purchased a copy of this book just last night at the AULA film
showing of Becoming Chaz, so I’ve not read it as this posting
goes to press.
The reason I’ll read it is because what I saw in Chaz, through his movie
and the interview by Prof. Charley Lang that followed, was someone
committed to advocacy and activism. A leader in the transgender
community, he is first and foremost an inspiration to anyone called
upon to do something courageous, something brave.
The event drew so many people from outside communities. I happen
to sit next to one, a young woman, an avid Cher fan, in LA from Florida
doing a community college internship at Disneyland. Upon learning about
the film showing from her mother back in Florida, she recruited a friend to
give her a ride to Antioch. She was in awe of all that Chaz has achieved.
Perhaps she’ll be inspired to finish her own degree at Antioch.
Such a powerful event, Charley.
